A sociology of globalization, its professionals and its norms
My research focuses on the sociology of globalization. Four ongoing strands, one earlier strand.
I have worked on French diplomacy and audiovisual globalization between the 1980s and the 2010s: export policies, audiovisual attachés, and market-festivals such as Cannes.
This research led to a book, Une contre-mondialisation audiovisuelle, and to a series of articles on the administration of French external broadcasting.
Related publicationsI have studied forms of the professionalization of globalization, particularly through the case of international trade fair professionals.
From the Promosalons archives to the 1980s "trade fair war", this strand asks what fairs and marketplaces do to global market places.
Related publicationsI have worked on the globalization of gender norms in diplomacy. With my colleague Yann Goltrant, I have conducted quantitative research on the feminization of the French diplomatic corps, based on 600 diplomatic careers.
I also investigate diplomats' private lives and the growing visibility of sexual minorities in diplomacy.
Related publicationsI am interested in the conceptual and methodological tools used to analyze world politics, drawing on both the social sciences and the political sociology of international relations.
This strand includes work on Bourdieu's legacies in international relations and on global inquiry in the social sciences.
Related publicationsIn the past, I have also worked on French militant cinema of the 1970s: film-based mobilizations, the rehabilitation of authorship, and Chris Marker's refusal to be interviewed.
